Acne can appear on the skin in many forms, including pustules, papules, cysts and larger nodules or boils. When acne is larger in size, it can become inflamed and swollen, making it especially sensitive to chemical acne-fighting products. For this reason, it is helpful to use a few natural acne treatments that may be effective in helping you clear up large acne boils.

Natural Soap

Most soaps used to treat acne boils and cysts contain strong chemical ingredients that can inflame and irritate the skin. Since large acne breakouts are already inflamed, using a soap that is too harsh on the skin can make the condition worse. Instead of using a standard soap, or one designed to dry up acne breakouts, use only a natural soap created by using simple ingredients, such as olive and coconut oil. Natural soaps will be gentle on the skin yet will clean the skin sufficiently. The skin should be moistened with water, lathered well with a natural soap, then rinsed with water. No scrubbing is necessary to clean acne-prone skin properly.

Tea Tree Oil

Although benzoyl peroxide is one of the most popular acne-fighting products available, it can often leave the skin red and inflamed and can even cause a mild chemical burn is used too frequently. Instead of using benzoyl peroxide to treat acne boils, tea tree oil can be substituted. Tea tree oil is an antimicrobial oil that clears us acne as well as benzoyl peroxide but without damaging the skin in the process. To apply tea tree oil to the skin, pour three drops of pure tea tree oil into a cotton ball and then dip the entire cotton ball quickly in and out of water to dilute the oil. Apply the diluted tea tree oil directly to the acne boils, up to five times per day.

Calamine Lotion

Calamine lotion can dry up large acne boils in the same way that it dries up chicken pox or poison ivy blisters. Calamine lotion is a natural lotion that can be used without causing inflammation or irritation to the skin. It can be left on overnight, making it an effective nighttime acne treatment. To apply calamine lotion to the face, dip a cotton ball into calamine lotion and dab the lotion onto the acne boils. Allow the lotion to dry on the skin, and leave it on for up to 10 hours.
