Acne breakouts can occur more frequently in pregnant women. This is due to the fluctuations in hormones, which can lead to an overproduction in facial oils that can clog pores. While most people treat acne blemishes with benzoyl peroxide or other acne-fighting products, pregnant women with acne may want to treat skin issues naturally to avoid exposure to chemical ingredients. Many different types of effective natural acne remedies are available.

Natural Cleansers

Natural cleansers are gentle on the skin. They don't expose the skin to the harsh chemicals in acne-fighting soaps. A few natural cleansers include 100 percent pure soaps, which are created using only natural ingredients and essential oils, and non-comedogenic oils such as jojoba, olive and castor oils. Many people don't realize that oils can be extremely cleansing on the skin, and are very effective in flushing clogged pores. To use an oil as a cleanser, massage 1 tbsp. oil onto the skin for two minutes, then lay a steaming washcloth over the skin. The oil bonds to the skin's oils, and the steam opens the pores to release trapped oils and impurities. After the cloth cools, it can be used to wipe away the remaining oils from the skin. Use an oil cleanser twice per day.

Natural Scrubs

Natural scrubs can be used to buff away dirt, oils and dead skin that can clog pores, which can cause acne breakouts. Once the dead skin and impurities are removed, the pores remain clear and the skin returns to its acne-free state. Natural scrubs are safe to use for pregnant women and don't irritate the skin. It's important to use a gentle scrub to remove dead skin and pore-clogging substances, such as baking soda or raw oats. To apply a scrub to the skin, mix 1 tbsp. of the substance with 1 tsp. water, and massage it onto wet skin. After two minutes, rinse the skin well with water. Use a natural scrub once per week.

Natural Spot Treatments

The most common type of acne treatment is benzoyl peroxide cream, which dries up acne and prevents new blemishes from forming. Unfortunately, benzoyl peroxide cream contains strong chemicals and may be too harsh for pregnant women. However, tea tree oil has been found to be just as effective as benzoyl peroxide cream and is safe to use for women carrying a baby. To apply tea tree oil, dip a cotton swab into tea tree oil, then dip it again into water to dilute it. Dab the diluted tea tree oil onto the acne breakouts up to three times per day.
