How to Avoid Getting Stretch Marks While Weight Lifting

When you lift weights in such a way that your muscles grow quickly, you may find yourself with stretch marks on your skin. A stretch mark is usually a red, scar-like line caused by the breakdown of collagen in your skin due to stretching. Laser surgery and other cosmetic treatments are effective ways to remove stretch marks. Taking measures to avoid weightlifting stretch marks before they happen will keep your skin clear.

Step 1

Drink a lot of water to help keep your skin properly hydrated. Aim for at least eight glasses per day.

Step 2

Eat foods that are higher in zinc to help promote collagen productions, says Zinc-rich foods include beef, pork, lamb, peanuts and legumes.

Step 3

Slow down your overall weightlifting plan to gain muscle at a slower pace. Lessen the amount of weight you lift and lift less frequently so your skin won't stretch so quickly.

Step 4

Moisturize the areas where muscle growth is occurring to help prevent scarring. Use cocoa butter before and after workouts.
