Organs in your body need coordination. Your body has been bestowed with two coordination systems, the nervous system and endocrine system. Both systems are vital for your body's even minor activities and work in conjunction with each other.
Both systems connect cells, tissues and organs together. Endocrine system uses chemical messengers called hormones for transferring information from one cell, tissue or organ to another. Each cell, tissue and organ possesses certain type of receptors which accepts the advice and listens to the information sent by its respective cells, tissues and organs.
Therefore, endocrine system connects your cells and organs using chemical substances called hormones.
Hormones and Your Skin:
Your skin keeps on changing its texture, color and complexion with the advent in age, by natural body demands and environmental factors. How do these changes occur? Both genders possess sex hormones which cause several changes including skin texture, color, softness and growth of pubic hair.
Your skin has certain types of receptors to listen to voice of hormones. Sebaceous glands produce sebum (oil) that lubricate hair shaft while hair follicle is a tiny tubular cavity. Sebum softens your skin and adds shine and charm.
Hormones and Sebaceous Glands:
Androgenic hormones like testosterone directly target sebaceous glands and stimulate them to produce excessive sebum. Excessive sebum clogs and follicles and cause inflammation. At this juncture, hair follicles get narrowed and restrict sebum.
As you ages, your body demands undergo changes both in your skin and texture and produce certain enzymes to accomplish these changes. These hormones besides stimulating other organs do stimulate your sebaceous glands.
Hormones and whiteheads:
Restricted sebum put pressure on walls of hair follicles and there appear bumps. These bumps are called whiteheads and if sebum and pus pops out it, it is called blackhead. The bump may contain cysts, semi-liquid masses of pus and sebum.
Hormones, Pimples and Papules:
When walls of hair follicles rupture, sebum and pus enter dermis of your skin. It causes irritation and burning sensation and bumps are called papules and pustules. Papules and pimples are more severe form of acne than pimples and whiteheads.
Among various causes of acne, hormonal imbalance is the leading cause of acne. Hair follicles are susceptible to hormonal fluctuation as get damaged and inflamed. Excessive androgenic hormones such as testosterone trigger sebaceous glands to produce more sebum that ultimately results in clogged pores and pimples.
