Home Remedies for Removing Acne Marks

Acne is not only difficult to deal with when present, but it can leave behind scars and marks of skin discoloration. Acne marks can be just as embarrassing as acne itself. Luckily, there are some simple home remedies to reduce and remove the appearance of acne marks. Remember, acne mark removal takes time, whether it's a home remedy or a dermatological treatment. Keeping your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water will help it heal.

Lemon Juice

The juice from lemons lightens dark acne marks. Make sure the affected area is clean, then dab lemon juice directly onto the acne mark using a cotton ball or swab. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, and then rinse it off. Lemon juice is one of the most effective home remedies for removing acne marks. The American Chronicle warns that lemon juice can make your skin photosensitive, meaning your skin can burn easier, so sunscreen is important to wear when exposed after lemon juice treatments.

Cucumber Juice

Cucumber juice is another home remedy to lighten dark acne marks. Crush a cucumber in muslin or other light cloth and squeeze the juice out. Apply directly to the clean acne mark and surrounding skin area with a cotton ball or swab. Leave on for 15 minutes and rinse.

Natural Face Mask

Not only will this mask help remove acne marks, but it will help to treat any scars on the skin's surface. Mix a tablespoon each of sour cream, yogurt, oatmeal and a couple drops of lemon juice. Spread the mixture over the skin's surface with the acne marks and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a natural exfoliant and a great home remedy for removing acne marks. By scraping away the surface of the acne mark with it, new skin can form that lacks the discoloration. Mix 1 part baking soda with 2 parts filtered water to create a paste. Massage into the skin for one minute with your fingers and then rinse.

Fruits

The American Chronicle advises using pineapple specifically for the fading of acne marks. Fresh fruits provide your skin with vitamin C to promote the formation of collagen and provide a gentle acid exfoliation. Puree fresh pineapple and apply the puree directly to your skin. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse.
