Your Environment Contributes to Your Acne Your Environment Contributes to Your Acne

The environment in which we all live plays its significant role in critical skin conditions and disorders including acne, acne scars and wrinkles. Most people neglect the fact that their environment may contribute to acne or other skin related disorders.

As a role of thumb, your environment clogs tiny pores (hair follicles), irritate and infect. The infection may spread up to deep skin layers called dermis. Clogging the skin pores triggers the process of acne breakouts.

Environment May Be Ecological or Psychological:
Psychological environment refers to your mental process or behavior with surrounding situations and living organisms. Stress and depression is a psychological disorder. Psychological disorders create hormonal imbalance and induces the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum.

Psychological effects due to social circle:
Sudden death of one of the relatives, breakage in marital relationship, pregnancy or any situation and your response to it is your psychological environment. It affects greatly on your body and hormonal system.

How can you prove that environment really causes acne?
Clogging of skin pores must result in acne, irrespective of factors that clogged the pores. It is fundamental theory of acne breakouts. Due to rapid industrialization, your environment is pollutant; factories and refineries exhaust oils, grease and soot that clog and irritate your skin. Environment (air) of your kitchen is oily.

When you come outside of home, you are exposed of sun and toxic gases excreted by vehicles. Ultraviolet rays of sun damages hair follicles and induce the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. Production of excessive sebum and blockage of hair follicles result in acne breakouts.

These are the clues widely accepted among scientist and dermatologist. Hair follicles are tiny tubular cavities. Each cavity is attached with one or more sebaceous glands that normally secrete sebum for skin and hair shaft lubrication. Environmental factors not only clog the hair follicles but also induce the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. When pores are clogged and sebum is continuously being produced, it damages hair follicles and a bump arises on the upper surface of the skin. The bump is called whitehead unless it ruptures. If it ruptures and sebum pops out the bum, it is called blackheads (non-inflammatory acne lesion).

In case of psychological disorder, your body secretes uncontrolled levels of hormones.

How can I inhibit the influence of environmental factors?
Environmental factors vary in summer and winter. In summer, avoid long periods of direct sun exposure; take bath twice a day at morning and night after coming from outside to shower pollutants from your body. In winter, wear full sleeve shirts and apply moisturizers to keep your skin soft and supple. Do not forget to apply moisturizers during winter, as dead skin cells in winter greatly contribute to blockage of skin pores and eventually lead to acne breakouts.

Environmental factors are the fundamental causes of skin disorders including acne. Rapid industrialization has brought lots of pollutions along itself. In spite of being fundamental cause of acne, it is being neglected. Oils and toxic gases clog and irritate your hair follicles and sebaceous glands. It is one of the worst causes of acne that can not be eliminated easily.
