Overview

Stretch marks are small tears in the skin that occur when the skin stretches too quickly, such as with weight gain or pregnancy. The unfortunate part of stretch marks is that they don't go away after the baby comes or you lose weight; it can take months or years for stretch marks to fade. Because of this, it is important to prevent stretch marks before they occur, by taking care of your skin and keeping it properly nourished and moisturized. Using cocoa butter as a daily moisturizer and getting enough vitamin B in your diet is a good way to stop stretch marks before they start.

Step 1

Moisturize your skin with cocoa butter twice daily and immediately after showering. Pay special attention to areas prone to stretch marks, like the breasts, stomach, buttocks and thighs.

Step 2

Eat a diet rich in vitamin B, including foods like whole grains, fresh fish, meats and poultry, eggs, dairy, dark, leafy green vegetables, beans and peas.

Step 3

Take a vitamin B supplement if your doctor recommends it. Consult your doctor about how much vitamin B you need, especially if you are pregnant. You can take a B-complex supplement that includes B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin, folic acid, biotin and pantothenic acid. Choose a whole food supplement rather than a synthetic. Whole food supplements are made from real food and are better utilized by the body than synthetics.
