How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks When Lifting Weights
Stretch marks are streak marks on the skin that appear on the arms, abdomen, thighs and other areas when weight lifting. When muscle growth occurs, the skin expands, leaving these frustrating scars. Over-the-counter treatment is available; however, the most effective methods are typically found at your doctor's office. Visiting your doctor will give you access to treatments that minimize the appearance of stretch marks caused by weight lifting.
Set up an appointment with a dermatologist. Dermatologist specializes in the treatment of skin issues. A doctor will talk with you about stretch marks, examine the scaring and make a recommendation for effective treatment.
Use Tretinoin cream for new stretch marks. When stretch marks are six weeks old or newer, the Mayo Clinic claims Tretinoin cream to be an effective treament. New stretch marks are usually pink in color. The prescription medication, however, doesn't work on older stretch marks.
Talk with your doctor about laser therapy. A type of laser therapy, called pulsed dye laser therapy, uses wave lengths to change the deeper layers of the skin. This stimulates collagen re-growth. This therapy is most affective when the marks are new. Treatment doesn't work well on darker tones of skin.
Use microdermabrasion treatments. A doctor uses a devise to blow crystals onto the stretch marks. A vacuum-like device is used to pick up crystals and skin cells. As a result, the top layer of skin is removed. This allows new skin to grow and minimizes the appearances of scarring from stretch marks. Microdermabrasion treatments are effective for new and old scars.
Ask your doctor about excimer laser treatments. This laser treatment stimulates the growth of melanin. The treatment lightens stretch marks to make the scarring less visible. Excimer treatments are effective for new and older stretch mark scars.
