Smoking, sun exposure and aging are some of the things that can take the elasticity out of our skin and cause it to droop and sag when we want it to be supple and shiny. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the skin is our largest organ, so taking care of it is vital. There are obvious things that you can do to keep your skin healthier and more capable of bouncing back day after day. Things like using sunscreen when you're out of doors, quitting smoking and eating a balanced nutritious diet can help keep your skin looking younger longer. Certain vitamins, whether ingested as food or taken as a supplement, should also be a part of any campaign to keep the elasticity in your skin.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is good for your body many respects. Not only does it help with the development and growth of bones, but it also helps protect and repair the skin. Retinol is one of the purest forms of vitamin A. It is commonly found in high-quality facial lotions. You can also find vitamin A in certain animal products like liver, eggs and dairy, along with green, leafy vegetables and fruits.

B Vitamins

The B vitamin family brings a plethora of health benefits. Chief among them, when it comes to the skin, is the B vitamin's ability to generate more red blood cells. The amount of blood circulating through the body helps to keep the skin healthy and gives you good color. B3, found in white meat and beef liver, is especially beneficial because it acts as a vasodilator, which helps open arteries and increases blood flow. Other B vitamins that play a role in blood cell production, include B6, found in bananas, peanuts, meats and oily fish, and vitamin B12, found in meat, fish and dairy products.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C provides a number of benefits to the skin. It is essential for the production of collagen, a protein that keep our skin supple and soft. Collagen injections have become a favored form of wrinkle removal. Vitamin C is also a good source of antioxidants, our skin's primary protection from free radicals that break down skin cells. Citrus fruits and vegetables like broccoli and green peppers contain high amounts of vitamin C.
