For most men, skin care consists of a daily shave followed by a splash of good-smelling aftershave, but skin care for men shouldn't stop there. Stress, aging and exposure to wind and sun are tough on the skin, and daily shaving makes the skin even more sensitive. Good skin care is especially important for men because a man's skin tends to be more oily than woman's skin, reports "Delicious Living Magazine."

Step 1

Cleanse your skin at least once or twice every day. Although men's skin is firmer and thicker than a woman's, it also tends to get oily quicker, as the skin has more active sebaceous glands, reports Use a cleanser formulated for your skin type.

Step 2

Use an aloe- or glycerin-based shaving cream, which will decrease irritation caused by shaving, advises Robin McClain of the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Shave with the direction of the hair and limit shaving to one or two passes. Avoid aftershaves that contains alcohol and opt for products that contain soothing ingredients such as Vitamin E oil. Follow shaving with an alcohol-free skin toner, which will remove soap and excess oils without irritating and drying the skin, advises

Step 3

Apply an oil-free moisturizer after your morning shower, in the middle of the day and after a visit to the gym to keep to keep your skin healthy and avoid premature wrinkles, recommends "Men's Health." Avoid moisturizers with heavy fragrance, which can irritate the skin. Moisturize your lips using a lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 to keep the lips soft and prevent sore, chapped lips.

Step 4

Apply a sunscreen daily, even on cloudy days, as protection from the sun. This is a vital aspect of skin care for men. Choose a sunscreen with an SPF between 15 and 30, advises Dr. Charles Crutchfield of University of University of Minnesota Medical School. The benefits of an SPF over 30 are negligible, Dr. Crutchfield says, and may eventually be banned by the FDA. Use a waterproof sunscreen spray to protect your skin at the pool or beach.

Step 5

Use a mild shower soap, suggests "Delicious Living" magazine. Choose a product with a masculine scent, such as sandalwood or eucalyptus, but avoid artificial colors and fragrances. Use a soap containing citrus if you have oily skin. Dry your skin completely after showering.

Step 6

Exfoliate your face using a gentle exfoliating scrub to remove rough skin caused by regular shaving. Exfoliate rough, dry skin on the elbows, knees and heels with a loofah or exfoliating scrub.
