How to Care for an Embedded or Impaled Object in the Skin

Overview

The function of the skin is to protection to the body, however, it does not provide an impermeable membrane that will keep out all objects. Small items, such as wood splinters or pieces of glass can get stuck into the skin. When this happens, you need to take steps to remove the item from the skin before it becomes infected. Remove small objects with items that are found around your house.

Tweezers

Step 1

Pinch the skin together to raise the object from the skin. Grab the end of the object with tweezers.

Step 2

Pull the object out of the skin with the tweezers slowly and with care.

Step 3

Wash the area with soap and water once the object is removed to prevent any bacteria from entering the skin.

Rubbing Alcohol

Step 1

Coat a needle in rubbing alcohol to sterilize it.

Step 2

Wash the infected area of the skin with a topical antiseptic in order to prepare your skin to be opened.

Step 3

Push the needle into the skin at the area where the object embedded itself. Work the object out of your skin with the needle.

Baking Soda

Step 1

Mix together a tablespoon of baking soda with warm water

Step 2

Rub the solution on the the spot with the embedded object twice daily.

Step 3

Work the solution into your skin until you wear the skin down enough to remove the object.
