Overview

If the pores become blocked with oil and dead skin cells, acne is likely to develop. Blocked pores can lead to the development of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and cysts. If you have sensitivity skin, you don't want to scrub at the skin to prevent pore blockage. This can leave your skin irritated and inflamed. If you are unable to get acne breakouts under control, speak to a dermatologist about additional recommendations for individuals with sensitive skin.

Step 1

Wash your face. Cleanse your skin twice a day with a mild cleanser. If you have sensitive skin, avoid cleansers with harsh chemicals and added fragrances. Cleanse excess oils off by washing the face after perspiring.

Step 2

Stop blocking pores. Limit the amount of oil that comes into contact with your skin. Wipe down objects such as a cell phone before pressing it against your face. Keep hair pulled back and away from the skin. Avoid hats and tight clothing pieces that can block the pores and cause acne. Hairsprays and gels also have the ability to clog the pores, according to the TeensHealth website.

Step 3

Skip the use of foundation. Foundations can clog the pores and lead to acne breakouts. If you can't live without foundation, choose mineral-based and powder types.

Step 4

Read the labels for all skin care products. Products used on your face need to be labeled oil free or non-comedogenic. When a non-comedogenic label is applied, it means the product has been tested and found not to block the pores.

Step 5

Apply a lotion containing an acne-fighting ingredient. Do this on a daily basis. Salicylic acid is an active ingredient in topical over-the-counter medications that promotes peeling to stop pores from becoming blocked. The directions may instruct you to use the product twice a day, but you should limit usage to once a day if you suffer from sensitive skin.
