How to Get Rid of Chapped Lips Overnight
Overview
Cold weather, over-exposure to the sun and dehydration are the most common causes of dry, peeling lips because lips lack the natural protective oil that other areas of skin possess. The best way to treat chronic chapped lips is to pinpoint the underlying cause and correct it. You can, however, get a jump-start on getting rid of chapped lips by applying a home-made exfoliating lip scrub before bed.
Step 1
Combine the sugar, honey and a few drops of the olive oil in a small bowl or container. Mix with your finger and add olive oil until the resulting paste is malleable but not runny.
Step 2
Apply the scrub to your lips using your fingertip. Gently stroke your lips in a circular motion for a few minutes.
Step 3
Wet a clean cloth with warm water and use it to remove the exfoliating scrub from your lips.
Step 4
Apply a few drops of vitamin E oil to your lips using your fingertip. The oil will help to moisturize the newly-exposed skin on your lips. After a minute or two, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your lips to help seal in the oil and provide protection to your lips.
Step 5
Repeat the exfoliation weekly for maintenance. During the day, use a natural, protective lip balm to help keep your lips from drying out.
