Almost everyone has to face acne once in some point in their life, so it can be said that it is a most common skin disorder now a days.
There are many researches that have been conducted to find out the exact reason of acne. They have found many reasons for acne like hormonal changes, food allergy, reaction of some cosmetic or medicine, increase in oil production in their cells which eventually leads to acne problems in the future.

Genetics are consider one of the reason of acne as well. Even though scientists don`t yet know what these genes are, it is clear from this study that acne runs in families. A large twin study based on 458 pairs of monozygotic and 1099 pairs of dizygotic twins, all women with a mean age of 46 y was performed to investigate the relative contribution of genetic and environmental factors on the liability to acne. fourteen percent of the twins reported a history of acne. Genetic modeling using acne scores showed that 81% of the variance of the disease was attributable to additive genetic effects. No significant differences were found between acne twins and nonacne twins for weight, body mass index, height, birth weight, hair thinning, reproductive factors as well as cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, and glucose levels.

Strictly speaking though, acne is not an inherited disease, at least not in the medical sense of the word. However, it is also true that acne is much more common in children of parents who have had or still have acne than those who do not. It does not mean that if parents have acne then their children will definitely have acne. But it means that if parents have acne then there is chances that children will get acne as well but it is not necessary.

There are thousands of acne sufferers who got rid of acne by right treatment. When you consult your dermatologist you should tell him everything including your family history of acne. There are lots of treatments available for mild to severe acne which vary from over the counter to conventional and also organic treatments.
