How to Remove Flaky, Dry Skin From the Face
According to Mayo Clinic.com, flaky, dry skin on the face is commonly caused by an allergic reaction to skin and hair products, overuse of hot water, weather, central heating and air conditioning, sun exposure, psoriasis and thyroid disorders. While serious dry skin should be checked by a doctor, minor to moderate problems can be helped with natural treatments, according to Julia Lawless, author of "The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to the Use of Aromatic Oils in Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well-Being," and Susan Worwood, author of "Essential Aromatherapy: A Pocket Guide to Essential Oils and Aromatherapy."
Combine ½ tsp. lemon balm essential oil, ½ tsp. tolu balsam essential oil, ½ tsp. geranium essential oil, ½ tsp. Roman chamomile essential oil, ½ tsp. Cassie essential oil, ¼ tsp. jasmine essential oil, ¼ tsp. lavandin essential oil and ¾ cup jojoba oil in a small bottle or container with a tight-fitting top.
Cover the bottle or container and shake it for 10 seconds to combine the essential oils and jojoba oil.
Pour a small amount of the mixture onto your fingertips and gently massage the oil onto the skin being treated. Allow the oil to stay on your skin for 20 to 25 minutes after application.
Rinse your skin with cool clean water and wash with a mild facial soap. Pat your skin dry with a clean cotton towel and apply a light oil-free moisturizer.
Use this treatment once per day in the evening only. Stop using the essential oil mixture if it cause redness, swelling, itching or dry skin.
Store unused portions of the essential oil mixture in a cool, dark place for 90 days. Throw the mixture away after 90 days has passed.
