Overview

According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," it is common to develop dark spots on your toes, especially around the joints, if you commonly wear shoes that do not fit properly or wear sandals or go barefoot frequently in the sun. If you are unhappy with the dark spots on your shoes, you can safely fade them at home, according to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology." Daily care is required, according to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," which should produce positive results in two to four weeks and full results in six to eight weeks.

Step 1

Mix 4 tbsp. tumeric powder with 1 tbsp. lime juice in a small bowl to form a paste.

Step 2

Scoop up a small amount of the paste on a cotton swab. Use the cotton swab to apply the paste to the dark spots on your toes. According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," the tumeric powder will lift the stains from the deep layers of the skin and the lime juice will fade the stains.

Step 3

Allow the paste to sit on your toes for 10 to 15 minutes. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," though the paste can safely be on your skin longer than 15 minutes, the benefits of the paste are minimal after 15 minutes of use.

Step 4

Rinse off the paste with cool water. According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," cool water is ideal because it will constrict the pores of the skin and decrease the possibility of further staining.
