The skin is the largest organ of the body, and the most visible. The facial skin is also the most delicate, requiring extra care and attention. Incorporate some facial skin care beauty tips into your daily routine to keep your skin fresh, healthy and beautiful for years to come.

Protection From the Sun

Protect the delicate skin on your face from the sun's damaging rays. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends applying a broad spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30. Broad spectrum sunscreens offer protection from UVA and UVB rays. Apply sunscreen daily, before applying makeup. According to the AAD, sun exposure can cause early aging of the skin with wrinkles and loss of elasticity, as well as greatly increase your risk of skin cancer, especially melanoma, the deadliest form. Protect your face by reapplying your sunscreen every two hours when you're outside during the sun's strongest hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also, wear a hat or stay in the shade when possible to shield your face from the sun.

Facial Products

Use facial products that compliment your skin type and needs. Harvard Health Publications recommends using a moisturizer to boost skin moisture, but the type of moisturizer does not make a significant difference, according to Harvard reports. Just be sure the moisturizer does not irritate your skin with strong fragrences. Also, if you have dry skin, use a humidifier at home and avoid hot showers and baths, as they dry out the skin. If you have oily skin, on the other hand, wash your face twice a day, Teens Health advises, as well as use makeup that is labeled noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic. Keep your face clean by avoiding touching it throughout the day, and never sleep in makeup.

Healthy Lifestyle Habits

Practice healthy lifestyle habits, such as eating nutritiously, exercising and sleeping at least eight hours a night, to improve your skin health. Eat a balanced diet that is rich in antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, which help protect the skin from damaging free radicals, slowing down the aging process. To get the nutrients your body needs, include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, beans and low-fat dairy products in your diet. Also, exercise regularly as it helps keep blood circulating in the body, which will allow your skin to repair itself quicker. Sleep and stress reduction are important as well, as stress can trigger breakouts and blotchy skin.
