How to Get Rid of Dry Skin Patches
The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of skin that protects the underlying layers of skin. Its main purpose is to retain moisture in the body. If the stratum corneum becomes too dry, it may not be able to work efficiently. This can cause the affected skin to dry out in patches. Exposure to chemicals, extreme heat, age and skin diseases are all common causes for the breakdown of the stratum corneum, which can lead to multiple dry-skin problems. Re-introduce moisture to revitalize the stratum corneum and your dry-skin patches.

Install a humidifier in your home. Dry heat indoors can help cause dry skin patches. A humidifier will add moisture to your home, and it can counter the effects of the dry heat your heating system provides. If you have a wood stove, fill a cast-iron pot with water and set it on the stove to provide moisture throughout the home.
Puree half of an avocado with a blender. Wash your face with just lukewarm water and pat your face slightly dry. Spread the avocado on the dry patches of your face and allow the mask to sit for 15 minutes before rinsing. Apply a vitamin-E-rich moisturizer to the dry areas of the face.
Wash with cold or lukewarm water. Avoid using soap as much as possible, and do not use hot water to clean areas with dry skin patches.
Cover your face with a scarf when you are outside in colder climates, and wear a hat that can shade your face during the hotter months. Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. The sun's rays will damage the skin on your face even further. Wear loose-fitting clothing that will not aggravate dry skin.
