Overview

Dry skin is a common complaint especially in the colder months. Dry skin can appear dull, feel tight and develop scales or even cracks. There are many natural remedies available to help treat dry skin. With the use of ingredients such as bananas, you can make affordable skin care treatments at home for little cost.

Bananas

Bananas are a sweet fruit that contain mostly sugars and fiber, and plenty of potassium. They have a number of other health benefits including reducing depression, helping maintain or restore normal bowel function, helping prevent age-related declines in eyesight and keeping your bones strong. Bananas are also high in iron, making them a good food for people with anemia.

Skin

Bananas help your skin both as part of a healthy diet and as a topical treatment. Banana peels contains a number of antioxidants and minerals that can help the skin restore itself naturally. They have been used as a home remedy for a number of skin conditions including allergies, bruises and skin dryness and irritation. The key compounds in the peel include potassium and other antioxidants that help to keep the skin looking and feeling soft, supple and healthy. To treat your skin, rub the inside of a banana peel on the area. Overripe bananas work best.

Face Masks

There are a number of banana-based treatments you have to choose from. For a face mask, mash together one small banana, ¼ cup of plain yogurt and 2 tbsp. of honey. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes and wash it off. For a warm face mask, mix two bananas and 2 tbsp. of honey, simmer in a pot until warm and smooth over your face or other areas of dry skin. Rinse the mask off after 10 to 15 minutes. After rising your face, splash some cool water over your skin to tighten up your pores.

Natural Treatments

Before spending money on expensive over-the-counter products, do some research on what natural treatments may be just as effective as commercial ones. Starting with a natural treatment may also help you to avoid reactions to chemicals in commercial products. Bananas are just one of many simple household items that can be used to treat skin problems and aging.
