How to Use Fluocinonide
Fluocinonide is a corticosteroid medication used to treat skin conditions. The prescription medication comes as a cream. Fluocinonide treats skin aliments such as atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. The medication reduces swelling, itching and redness associated with the skin conditions. The brand names, available by prescription, for fluocinonide are Vanos and Lidex. Because of the powerful corticosteroid, use fluocinonide with caution.
Wash skin with a mild soap and dry completely. Spread a thin layer of fluocinonide on affected area of skin. Rub into skin until completely absorbed. Apply once or twice daily, as directed by a physician, until the skin condition improves.
Allow area to remain open to air and do not affected skin with a bandage or tight clothing.
Use fluocinonide topically only. Avoid using fluocinonide over large areas of the body and for long periods. Do not apply to eyes or mucous membranes.
Watch for serious side effects, including a headache, nasal congestion and a sore throat. Stop using the medication immediately if these occur. Seek immediate medical attention for any symptoms of an allergic reaction. These symptoms include hives, swelling of the face and airway and difficulty breathing.
Use this medication with caution in children under the age of 12 because they absorb more of the steroids into their body.
