Hydrolyzed Collagen Benefits

Hydrolyzed Collagen Benefits Hydrolyzed Collagen Benefits

Hydrolyzed collagen is an odorless powder that dissolves easily in water. It is similar to gelatin, coming from the same sources, but does not share gelatin's gelling properties. It is manufactured from tissues of animals such as cows, pigs, fish and poultry. Collagen is rich in protein, and has numerous health and beauty benefits. Please talk to your doctor before taking collagen to treat any medical condition.

Hair and Skin Beauty

According to the Gelatine Manufacturers of Europe, hydrolyzed collagen helps to retain moisture in your skin and condition your hair. Collagen forms a film on the surface of the skin and hair which contributes to its benefits. Skin becomes smoother and softer when collagen is applied to it. Skin also is protected from drying out, and collagen is less irritating to it and mucous membranes compared to conventional surfactants. Collagen increases hair gloss and enables it to absorb dyes more easily. It also protects hair structure when bleaching or permanent waves are performed.

Improves Joint Health

A study cited by Ray Sahelian, M.D. shows that collagen has positive effects on joint health. In the study, conducted at the German Olympic Center in Essen, 79 percent of participating athletes showed significant improvement in joint mobility and flexibility after a 12-week treatment with collagen hydrolysate, or CH-Alpha. The areas where improvements were reported include the knees, hips and shoulders, especially when walking up stairs or lifting objects above the head. In addition to increased range of motion, pain relief was also reported in 78 percent of the study group. Dr. Sahelian explains that CH-Alpha has an amino acid composition very similar to material found naturally in the joints of the body. Taking collagen to treat joint discomfort should be undertaken under the guidance of a licensed medical practitioner.

Increases Bone Density

Dr. Sahelian says that hydrolyzed collagen might be useful in treating osteoporosis. Collagen derived from shark skin was administered to rats that had their ovaries removed and were fed a low-protein diet to spur bone-density loss. The rats showed an increase of bone mineral density in these rats compared to a control group. Natural collagen volume increased at the end of their leg bones as a result of supplementation. Before taking any supplement to treat a condition such as osteoporosis, please consult with your physician.
