Daily Care for Oily to Normal Skin
Normal to oily skin, otherwise known as combination skin, can be hard to deal with because it is prone to dryness in some areas, yet prone to excess oil in others. The proper care of normal to oily skin involves cleansing, treating and moisturizing altogether to create an ideal skin texture,. The addition of a daily sunscreen can also help ward off premature signs of aging. Gather the right products to care for your normal to oily skin every day.
Cleanse your skin each night before you go to bed. Using a soap can be too drying on your normal areas, and it can actually increase oil production where your skin is oily, usually in the chin, nose and forehead area. Instead use a mild cream cleanser like Cetaphil to wash dirt, makeup and oil from the face without drying it out.
Apply an acne treatment cream if you suffer from areas of acne where your skin is oily. The best types of acne ointment are those that use benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. A think layer applied each night to only your oily areas can help tackle existing acne and stop more acne from coming back as it dries up your oil patches.
Moisturize daily. Both before you go to bed and when you wake, a moisturizing cream that is oil-free and hypoallergenic will help to keep your skin hydrated. This can slow down oil production and keep the normal places on your face looking youthful. Normal skin shows signs of aging faster than other skin types, so keep it quenched with a moisturizer.
Use sunscreen each day to protect your skin. The Beth Isreal Deaconess Medical Center notes that daily sunscreen use is effective at preventing precancerous skin lesions. No matter what type of skin you have, an oil-free sunscreen used each morning before you go outside can help your skin stay looking young, fresh and keep it healthy.
Exfoliate your skin at least once per week. Exfoliating is especially important for those with normal to oily skin. Exfoliating helps slough away the dead skin cells and oil that can clog pores, giving you acne, but it can also help remove dry, dead skin from the normal places on your face. It allows you to put your best face forward, even if you have combination skin.
