Beauty Tips for Dull Skin

Beauty Tips for Dull Skin

If you ever look in the mirror and wish that your skin had a little more pep and radiance, know that there are many ways to get better looking skin. Creating a beauty routine, indulging in beauty treatments and trying out home remedies are three ways to get you there.

Beauty Routine

Dr. Howard Murad, a board-certified dermatologist and an associate clinical professor at UCLA, says a common mistake people make in their skincare routine is to put heavy creams or oily lotions directly onto dry skin. This is self-defeating and does nothing to brighten the complexion. Instead, he suggests using a gentle, exfoliating cleanser several times a week to remove dead skin cells.

Dr. Murad recommends following this cleanser with a hydrating moisturizer that contains ingredients such as avocado oil, sodium hyaluronate and hyaluronic acid. These three ingredients hydrate dull and dry skin by forming a protective lipid barrier to hold in the skin's natural moisture throughout the day. He recommends Olay Regenerist Thermal Skin Polisher for exfoliation and Clinique Superdefense Triple Action Moisturizer with SPF 25 for hydration.

Beauty Treatments

Many women have periodic facials to ensure their skin is looking its best. Dr. Murad suggests choosing a facial that has citrus ingredients such as papaya or pineapple, as citrus fruit has special enzymes that work by digesting dead skin cells on the surface and revealing more radiant skin beneath.

Another way of turning a dull or sallow complexion into a radiant one is to get a fake tan. Eva Longoria's skin artist, Jimmy Snyder, the founder of Mobile Tanning Pros in Los Angeles, emphasizes the importance of proper exfoliation before getting a fake tan. Snyder recommends Origins Modern Friction for the Body to use before tanning.

Home Remedies

YGo Home Remedies website offers several suggestions for brightening skin with natural ingredients. A paste can be made with crushed almonds and milk and applied to the face. The site recommends leaving this paste on for 30 minutes each day for 15 days.

Another option is to mash fresh spearmint leaves and add a small amount of water to it. This can be mixed in with your regular cleanser in the morning and evening to clean and hydrate the skin.

Mixing mashed apricots with olive oil and applying it to the face is another idea. The apricot works to exfoliate a dull complexion, while the olive oil provides additional nutrients and moisture to nourish the fresh and new skin that comes to the surface.
