Sulfur Acne

Sulfur Acne Sulfur Acne

In old times, people used to treat acne using sulfur (previously called brimstone) in a number of bad skin conditions like dandruff, dermatitis, warts and Roscoe etc. It is amongst oldest famous acne treatments .

It is a naturally occurring element, and has an aroma that is reasonably… distinguishing. The smell of putrid eggs comes to mind. Fortunately, the majority of today's manufactured goods don't possess that bad odour.

Most of the acne treatments of sulfur contain sodium sulfacetamide or resorcinol. Sulfur is also found in prescription medicines, and over-the-counter skin care range.

When applied on the skin, it leads to skin dryness and peeling. Regardless of how it sounds, sulphur is in fact an effective treatment if someone has acne problem. It diminishes oiliness of skin, and protects pore blockages from developing. However one must not use any of sulphur products on sunburned, chapped or previously irritable skin, one must wait until it heals prior to use sulfur product. It is present in a huge range of skin care products, for example soaps, lotions, cleansers, masks, and acne curing ointments.

Sulfur is available in a huge variety. Hence it is recommended to read directions for its usage before applying on the skin. Some of these products can be left over night on the skin and some should be removed within few minutes after its application. However, in most of the cases such products are applied from one to three times in a day.

Possible side effects of using sulphur treatment include peeling, drying, burning, redness and irritation on the skin. You may experience these side effects in the beginning of the treatment, however if you start to use these treatments gradually and slowly in a low dose there will be less chances of developing such side effects. Topically used sulphur treatment does not usually cause serious troubles. Some of the sulphur containing products may end up in discoloration of skin. Also many may still contain its typical odour. Thus, if the smell becomes unbearable for you, you must try and make use of some other brand. Its odour may vary from one brand to another.
