Home Remedies for Removing Blackheads & Acne
Home remedies may be able to help lessen blackheads and clear up acne on even the most troubled skin. Keep in mind that each treatment will work differently for different individuals and might take time to bring about the desired results. To reduce the risk of adverse reaction, such as an allergic rash, consult your dermatologist or primary care physician before trying a natural home remedy.
Rosewater Blend
Rosewater blended with cucumber and lemon juice might help eliminate blackheads and other skin breakouts. Roshni Dayal, in "Natural Beauty Secrets from India: Easy, Economical, and Effective Head-To-Toe Home Remedies for a Beautiful You, Naturally," recommends this complexion-clearing mixture. Combine equal amounts of rosewater, cucumber juice and lemon juice, and then gently apply this mixture to your skin. Leave the blend on for 30 to 45 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Use this treatment daily or weekly on your face as well as on other acne-prone areas.
Honey Mask
Remove blackheads and reduce overall occurrences of acne with a honey mask. Dayal suggests this simple home remedy and says it can help even deep-rooted cases of acne. Thoroughly blend 2 tbsp. of honey and 2 tsp. of cinnamon powder. Smooth the honey blend onto your skin, and leave it in place for one hour or more. Repeat the mask every day for three weeks or until your skin improves. Dayal notes that the hot, tingly sensation you feel during the first three or four treatments will diminish with successive treatments.
Cabbage Lotion
Cabbage lotion might help reduce breakouts and prevent them from reoccurring over time. Svetlana Konnikova and Anna Marie Clement, in "Mama's Home Remedies: Discover Time-Tested Secrets of Good Health," recommend this home acne treatment for everything from blemishes to blackheads. Chop 1/2 lb. of fresh cabbage leaves in a blender, then add 1 tbsp. of olive oil and mix thoroughly. Strain the resulting mixture and blend in 2 drops of fresh lemon juice. Apply the lotion to your skin with a cotton ball twice daily until your skin begins to clear.
Parsley Compress
Lessen blackheads and other forms of acne with a fresh parsley compress. Jude Todd, in "Jude's Herbal Home Remedies: Natural Health, Beauty & Home-Care Secrets," suggest this calming natural breakout cure. Place a large handful of chopped parsley into a mixing bowl and cover the parsley with 1 cup of boiling water. Place a lid on the bowl and let the parsley steep until the water cools to room temperature. Strain out the parsley, and then dampen a soft cloth in the liquid. Apply the cloth to your skin as a compress for 15 minutes. Repeat daily for the best results.
