Mexoryl is a proprietary, photostable sunscreen ingredient that was patented in 1982. The first Mexoryl-containing sunscreen was released in 1992, reports A.T. Still University, and it's the first new sunscreen ingredient to receive U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in over two decades. Look for a sunscreen product containing Mexoryl to experience the benefits of broad-spectrum sun protection for yourself.

L'Oreal Paris Advanced Revitalift UV Daily Moisturizing Cream

Sunscreen expert Paula Begoun tested L'Oreal's daily moisturizing cream and says it was "very good." It's formulated with Mexoryl, along with other sunscreen ingredients like titanium dioxide and avobenzone. This gives you "excellent UVA protection," reports Begoun. She concludes that it's best for slightly oily to slightly dry skin, and may help moisturize your skin.

Lancôme UV Expert With Mexoryl SPF 20

Lancome's facial lotion was chosen as an editor's pick by "InStyle" magazine's beauty editors, thanks in part to its use of Mexoryl. The editors loved its lightweight feel that was simultaneously "heavy duty" when it comes to protecting your skin. Lancome doesn't add any fragrances to the lotion, making it acceptable for sensitive skin. Basic emollients also help hydrate your skin cells.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sunscreen Cream

This cream comes in an SPF 15 and SPF 40 formulation, depending on how much sun protection you need. It combines the strength of Mexoryl SX with avobenzone, which Begoun says helps give more than adequate UVA protection. She warns that UVA rays are a primary factor in wrinkle development, which this sunscreen can help prevent.

SkinCeuticals Active UV Defense Sunscreen Cream SPF 15

SkinCeuticals' sunscreen provides "sufficient UVA protection" thanks to its Mexoryl, as well as defense against UVB rays, according to Begoun. She liked its lightweight texture with moisturizing effects, and says it's ideal for normal skin as well as skin that's slightly dry or oily. There's no fragrance in this cream, so it won't excessively irritate your sensitive skin.
