Clear Eyes Ingredients
Clear Eyes is a brand of eye drops used to provide temporary relief of dry eyes, allergies, eye itching and other similar discomfort. Clear Eyes is available over-the-counter, but its use should be discussed with a doctor when other health conditions exist, such as pregnancy, reports Drugs.com.
Redness Reliever
One active ingredient in most Clear Eyes products is naphazoline hydrochloride, an ocular vasoconstrictor. As explained by the National Institutes of Health, an ocular vasoconstrictor is a drug that can help constrict swollen blood vessels, which removes visible redness.
Lubricant
Glycerin is a second active ingredient in most Clear Eyes products. This ingredient is responsible for lubricating the eye to sooth dryness and itching.
Inactive Ingredients: Appearance
Several other ingredients are included in Clear Eyes to act as preservatives and to assist in administering the drops to the eye. Naphazoline hydrochloride comes in a powder form, explains the National Institutes of Health. To make the medication easier to apply to the eyes, a mixture of water and several preservatives are added to Clear Eyes, and make up the inactive ingredients. These ingredients include boric acid, edetate disodium, purified water and sodium borate.
