How to Get Rid of Pimples Fast & Easy
Acne is a skin disorder that affects an estimated 60 million people at any given time, according to the Acne Resource Center. The American Academy of Dermatology reports that acne has three main causes: overproduction of sebum by enlarged oil glands in the skin, clogged hair follicles that release oil, and bacteria in the pores. While acne typically begins in the teens, adults 20 to 50 years old can have the skin condition. Following a daily treatment routine is the best way to have a clear complexion.
Wash your skin first thing in the morning. The American Academy of Dermatology suggests cleansing your skin twice a day. In a 2008 study, the Japanese Society of Physiological Anthropology found that those who took a shower in the morning prevented the production of sebum for about four hours.
Apply benzoyl peroxide to the areas of your skin that typically break out. Start with 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide. Only try the 5 or 10 percent formulation if you do not see any improvement after four to six weeks.
Dab an alpha hydroxy acid on emerging pimples after the benzoyl peroxide is completely dried. Dr. Dawn Davis of the Mayo Clinic says that alpha hydroxy acid exfoliates dead skin cells and improves the appearance of skin. Glycolic and lactic acids are two types of alpha hydroxy acids available over the counter.
Wash your skin at night with a cleanser containing salicylic acid. According to the Mayo Clinic, using more than one acne product with different active ingredients will increase your chances of treating stubborn breakouts.
Apply benzoyl peroxide to your skin again before going to bed.
Exfoliate your skin only two or three times a week. Use an exfoliator containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.
