Fastest Way of Getting Rid of Pimples Fastest Way of Getting Rid of Pimples

Overview

The fastest way to get rid of acne is to follow basic skin care guidelines. Harsh products like masks, toners, astringents and abrasive soaps and scrubs may claim to clear up acne, but will likely irritate your skin and lead to more pimples, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. To get rid of pimples fast, avoid anything that irritates your skin. A gentle face soap and a basic over-the-counter acne cream or gel are all you need to clear up acne on your own. Prescription-strength creams, oral antibiotics, acne surgery, laser therapy and corticosteroid injections may be recommended by a dermatologist in addition to a face soap if your acne is severe, so consult a dermatologist.

Step 1

Wash your face, ears and neck with a gentle face soap and warm water in the morning and at night. More frequent washings can irritate the skin, according to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. It is OK to wash off sweat after heavy exercise.

Step 2

Wash any parts of your body where there are pimples as well. Use an oil-free soap. Look for the words "nonacnegenic" or "noncomedogenic" to indicate that the product is made without pore-clogging oil.

Step 3

Lay a towel on your skin to absorb moisture and then allow skin to air-dry for five to 15 minutes. Patting or rubbing your skin to dry it may irritate your skin, increasing how long it will be before your skin clears up.

Step 4

Put an acne cream or gel on your skin. Use one or more products that contain benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, salicylic acid or resorcinol, as recommended by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. Cover all areas that have pimples or may develop them, as topical medications are effective against the formation of new pimples, according to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology. Use enough acne cream to thoroughly cover the areas prone to breakouts or your face and body once a day after washing.

Step 5

Apply a moisturizer only if you have dry skin and are told to do so by your dermatologist. Use an oil-free moisturizer that does not include vitamin E. Stay away from cocoa butter and Vaseline, as suggested by the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.
