How to Get Rid of Bad Acne Inexpensively
Just because your acne is severe doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of money to improve your complexion. Acne can be treated with everything from home remedies to products sold on TV commercials. Educating yourself about the ingredients in expensive acne treatments may be all you need to save yourself a significant amount of money. Some insurance plans cover the medications needed for acne management, and some drugstores offer discounts on generics that may be just as effective.
Cleanse your face properly. Because most acne breakouts are a result of dirt, oil and dead skin cells trapped in pores, an exfoliant cleanser can be very effective for treating blackheads. Most pharmacies carry store brands of cleansers that cost less than the name brands. Look for one containing salycilic acid for acne-fighting benefits, and rinse thoroughly after use.
Try a home remedy. Calamine lotion can be used for spot treatment of emerging pimples, and fresh tomato pulp can be used to treat blackheads. Citric acid from limes and lemons makes an effective toner for use after washing. A mask made of crushed uncoated aspirin and honey has worked for some acne sufferers.
Ask your dermatologist or general physician about generic antibiotics. Tetracycline and erythromycin are commonly prescribed to treat acne. If you don't have health insurance, try a big chain pharmacy. Some offer generics for as little as $3 or $4.
Recreate popular acne treatment systems. You may be paying for convenience by purchasing everything from one manufacturer. Glycolic acid and benzoyl peroxide are common ingredients that can be purchased in cheaper formulations. Drugstore brands can be just as effective when purchased separately.
Resist the temptation to pick or squeeze pimples. Not only can picking lead to scarring, it can actually slow healing time. Keep your hands off your face as much as possible, as they can transfer dirt and bacteria to the skin.
