How to Get Rid of Acne on My Back
Acne on your face is a problem, but acne on your back can be a widespread, large-scale problem. Because your back is normally covered by clothes, you may not think it a problem until you want to go to the beach or spend a romantic evening with your significant other. Luckily, with treatment you can get rid of acne on your back with the help of exfoliation, cleansing and some good skin-care practices.
Exfoliate the skin on your back once a week to get rid of dead skin cells that could be clogging your pores and exacerbating your acne problem, says the Acne Resource Center. An exfoliating cream is ideal, but you can also mix your own exfoliating paste by combining enough sugar and olive oil to make a paste and rubbing it in a circular motion on your back.
Use a mild cleaner every day in the shower to rid your back of dirt, oil and bacteria. Choose one that has benzoyl peroxide, and avoid using soap on the affected area. Soap can dry out your skin and cause it to overcompensate by producing more oil, and more acne.
Pat yourself dry when you get out of the shower, instead of rubbing your skin. This could cause irritation. Instead, pat lightly and allow your back to air dry as much as possible, suggests Acne.org. Make sure to always use a clean towel, as oil and bacteria from a used towel could be spread on your body.
Apply a thin layer of an acne treatment cream containing at least 5 percent benzoyl peroxide. This will help to dry out the acne that is currently on your back, and will help stop new breakouts from forming. Just be sure to allow the cream to dry before putting on a shirt; benzoyl peroxide can bleach clothing, and the shirt could wipe the medicine away before it has time to penetrate your skin.
Wear loose clothing, especially when exercising. Sweat can get trapped between your skin and your clothes, providing an ideal breeding ground for the bacteria that causes back acne. Avoid wearing a backpack too often, as it can rub against your back and trap sweat underneath.
