How to Make Oatmeal Soap for Acne

Acne vulgaris (acne) is a common dermatological problem affecting millions of people worldwide. This skin problem is commonly seen in the back, chest and face because these areas contain the sebaceous glands (glands that produce skin oil called sebum). Acne is formed when these glands are infected or overstimulated. Common causes of acne include genetics, puberty, medications, bacteria and blockage of skin pores. Numerous skin cleansers and soaps are used to cleanse skin with acne, but many of these products contain potent chemicals that can irritate or make the acne worse. Using soaps made with natural ingredients such as oatmeal can prevent skin irritation when washing. Oatmeal contains exfoliating and soothing properties that are gentle for acne-affected skin, and you can make your own natural oatmeal soap at home.

Step 1

Cut the clear glycerine base soap into small cubes using a clean, dry knife. Place the cubes into a microwavable bowl and heat them in the microwave for 50 seconds, then for five-second intervals until they melt. Don't boil the base soap; this causes bubbles to form and ruins the appearance of the final soap.

Step 2

Grind 2 1/2 cups dry oatmeal in a blender and set it aside.

Step 3

Remove the bowl from the microwave and add 1/2 cup milk along with 2 cups grinded dry oats and 5 tbsp. honey. Stir well until the mixture thickens. Do not add fragrances or alcohol, because these can irritate skin affected by acne.

Step 4

Place the mixture back in the microwave for another 50 seconds to soften it. Rinse the cupcake mold pan and wipe it dry with a clean cloth or tissue. Add 1 tbsp. grinded dry oats to each cupcake mold. Pour the mixture into each cupcake mold until it's half full. Cover each mold with 1 tbsp. grinded dry oats and set the pan aside to cool for about two or three hours.

Step 5

Turn the cupcake mold pan upside down and place it on a large enough cookie sheet. Tap the pan to dislodge the soap bars. Place the soap bars in an airtight container and store them in a cool, dry place.
