Clay masks help to both exfoliate your skin and suck up excess oil, according to cosmetic expert Paula Begoun. They're intended to be smeared on and worn for several minutes before being washed off. Due to their cleansing properties, some masks can be helpful in detoxifying your skin's surface to ease your acne condition.

Jen Marini Factor-A Plus Mask

Jen Marini's acne-clearing face mask earned Begoun's recommendation in her book, "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me." She says it's "intriguing" and "well-formulated," noting that its 2 percent concentration of salicylic acid works effectively because of properly balanced pH. The acid helps exfoliate and clear your pores for less blemishes, while antioxidants and other skin conditioners improve your skin's health. Begoun suggests wearing it overnight for the best results.

Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask

In its November 2009 issue, Lucky magazine's fashion editors listed Murad's acne mask as an "Insider's Pick." The magazine loved how it helped pull debris and impurities from deep within your skin. Alpha hydroxy acids help exfoliate the skin's surface for a natural glow, while herbal extracts, including ginkgo biloba extract, help soothe pimple inflammation.

Ren Skincare Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask

Ren Skincare's glycolic acid-based mask was named one of the best radiance masks on the market by the beauty editors of InStyle magazine. Its acids enhance skin-cell turnover to help fade acne scars and keep your pores open and clear to avoid the infections that lead to pimples. It's just like a "speed facial," says the magazine.

Nu Skin Epoch Glacial Marine Mud

Begoun says Nu Skin's masking product works as one of the best masks for "blemish-prone skin." In her review, she writes that it's a "good absorbent mask" and liked that it's made without fragrances. Nu Skin's marine mud pulls impurities from your skin while more than 50 trace minerals and nutrients, including copper, zinc and algae extract, help condition your skin.
