Overview

Blackheads can be very hard to clear up. Most people get blackheads on their nose, chin, cheeks and forehead. Blackheads are basically little bumps embedded into your pores. They usually appear yellow or black in color. Pores contain hair follicles, sweat glands and an oily substance called sebum. Your pores can easily clog with dead cells that lead to blackheads. Oil is the No. 1 cause of blackheads. You can help clear up your pores and blackheads by cleaning them, which will make them look smaller. By using the right products and following the right treatment plan, you can clear up your blackheads.

Step 1

Apply aloe vera to your skin. If you have an aloe vera plant, break off a leaf and squeeze the liquid right into your skin. Rub on to your blackheads, and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. If you don't have a plant, you can buy aloe vera lotion or gel at almost any drugstore. Buy a product that contains at least 94 percent aloe vera.

Step 2

Use vitamin C. Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, can improve the texture and clarity of your skin by helping boost collagen production. Peel an orange and grate the peel. Combine the peel with a tablespoon of water and mix together until it becomes a paste. Apply to your blackheads for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. You can also take vitamin C tablets. Most doctors suggest 1,000 milligrams per day.

Step 3

Make an appointment for a facial. An esthetician can professionally remove blackheads without leaving any scars. Estheticians use a device called an extractor, which is a tool with loops on either end. The extractor is pushed directly over the blackhead forcing it out of your pore. Go to a professionally trained esthetician, as extractors can leave damage and scars on your skin If used incorrectly.

Step 4

Get medication. Your dermatologist can prescribe medicine that will help clear up your blackheads. Retinoids, a form of vitamin A, will help regulate the size of your pores. Retinoids will make your pores bigger and reduce your blackheads. The most commonly used retinoids are Aviva, Differin and Retin-A.
