Skin Treatments For Acne and Blotchy Skin

Skin Treatments For Acne and Blotchy Skin

Acne is an inflammatory condition caused by your pores becoming infected with bacteria trapped inside. When your skin breaks out in acne pustules, they can be painful and irritated, often leading many people to pick and pop them. This results in a blotchy complexion that can take weeks or months to fully clear. Luckily, there are skin care treatments that can reduce acne breakouts while returning your skin to its naturally smooth appearance.

Oil Cleanse

According to the University of California, applying a non-comedogenic oil to your skin will not only flush out your pores effectively, but will soothe your face and help your skin return to a more balanced condition. It is important to only use a non-pore clogging oil, such as Castor or olive oil, so that it will not re-clog your pores or cause more acne. To use oil to flush out your pores, massage one to two tsp. of your chosen oil onto your skin for three minutes, then drape a hot towel over your face. This will open up your pores to allow the oil and impurities to be released. After the cloth cools down, use it to wipe away the oil from your skin. An oil cleanse should be applied to your skin twice per day; once in the morning and again at night.

Lemon Juice Toner

According to the University of Maryland, lemon juice is very high in vitamin C, which sloughs off dead skin and encourages your skin to produce new skin cells. When dead skin is removed from your face, it prevents your pores from becoming clogged. Once your skin begins to take advantage of this increase in skin cell turnover, your pores will be more clear, and your skin will become more evenly toned. To apply a lemon juice toner, pour 8 ounces of concentrated lemon juice into an empty spray bottle, then spritz your skin twice per day after cleansing.

Tea Tree Oil Spot Treatment

Tea tree oil is an antibacterial and antimicrobial oil that is extracted from the Australian tea tree plant. According to the Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, tea tree oil is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide, but does not cause irritating side effect like peeling or burning. Using tea tree oil instead of benzoyl peroxide helps clear your skin without causing further blotchiness or inflammation. To use tea tree oil, dip a cotton swab into pure tea tree oil, then dip it again into water to dilute it. Dab the diluted oil onto the active acne pustules up to three times per day.
