Acne is a skin condition that presents itself as inflamed pustules, papules and cysts on the skin. These skin bumps can be both painful and embarrassing, and can be difficult to eliminate completely. Many people try to treat their acne by slathering on harsh chemical acne products, which only serve to dry out and irritate the skin, and can sometimes exacerbate acne. Luckily, there are a few treatments that, when combined, create an effective acne treatment remedy.

Step 1

Cleanse your face with a natural, chemical-free soap. Many facial soaps contain strong ingredients that can irritate and inflame the skin. When cleansing skin that is already inflamed by acne, it is important to use a soap that is very gentle, and uses only natural ingredients that will not worsen the condition. You can find a natural soap at any natural foods or health food store, or you can make natural soap at home. Wet your skin well, then lather your hands with the natural soap. Spread the lather onto your face, gently moving it around to cover the whole area. Rinse the skin well. Cleanse your skin with a natural soap twice a day; wash once in the morning and again at night.

Step 2

Exfoliate pore-blocking dead skin cells with a natural scrub, such as baking soda. Removing dead skin cells prevents the pores from becoming clogged because the dead skin cells normally cover over the pores. Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda with 1 tsp. of water in a small bowl. Smooth the baking soda mixture onto your skin using your fingers. Massage the baking soda mixture around your face using small, circular finger movements. After one to two minutes, rinse off your skin well with water. Exfoliate your skin once per day after cleansing.

Step 3

Spot treat active acne breakouts with tea tree oil. According to the Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, tea tree oil has acne-fighting properties similar to benzoyl peroxide, but will not cause side effects on the skin like benzoyl peroxide can, such as peeling or burning. Dip a cotton swab into pure tea tree oil, then dip it again into pure water to dilute it. Apply the diluted tea tree oil to the active acne breakouts. Allow the tea tree oil to dry onto the skin Tea tree oil can be used on your skin up to three times per day.
