How to Mix Acne Products
Battling acne can be a challenge, especially with the plethora of products in the stores. While several over-the-counter cleansers and creams can help banish blemishes, using too many can overload your face and make skin problems worse. According to "Allure" magazine, pimples result from clogged pores, bacteria and excess oil. Fight these problems by using the right combination of acne products both in the morning and at night. Take diligent care of your skin, and it will begin to clear up, leaving you with a smoother, more even-toned complexion.
Lather a 3-percent glycolic acid cleanser in your wet palms and massage it onto your face as soon as you wake up. "Allure" notes that this type of face wash will both unclog your pores and help ward off pimples. Smooth the product onto your wet face and rinse it off with lukewarm water. Pat yourself dry.
Rub a 2.5-percent benzoyl peroxide lotion over your entire face. According to "Cosmopolitan" magazine, this will keep your pores clear of the debris that can clog them, clear up current zits and help keep new ones from popping up. Dab a little extra directly on top of any pimples to help them dry up faster.
Protect your skin from sun damage by applying an oil-free sunscreen before you leave the house. Acne products can make you more prone to sunburn, and an oil-free sunscreen will give you the protection you need without clogging your pores. Slather your face and neck with sunscreen every morning, whether you will be outside or not.
Use the glycolic acid cleanser to wash your face again at night and gently rub it into your skin using a warm, wet washcloth. "Cosmopolitan" says that this will get rid of dead skin and pore-clogging dirt. Avoid scrubbing your skin too harshly, which can cause irritation, and rinse all of the cleanser off when you finish.
Apply a retinol cream each night. Dermatologist Dr. Jenny Kim says retinol creams free your pores of grime, as well as stimulate cell renewal and promote an overall evening out of your skin tone and texture. Smooth a small amount of the cream all over your face before bed.
