Homemade Acne Medicine
Understanding exactly what's in a purchased skincare product can be a complicated process, reports the Food and Drug Administration, since ingredient labels are often filled with names that you don't readily recognize. One way to get around the confusion of trying to determine what's in an acne treatment product is to make your own homemade acne medicine.
Put a small bunch of fresh basil, stems and all into a small bowl.
Pour boiling water over the basil until the basil is completely covered with hot water. Let the mixture steep for two to three hours. Check occasionally; if the mixture begins to dry out, add a little more boiling water.
Strain liquid into a bottle or other container, using a colander or cheesecloth. Discard stems and leaves.
Use every day after washing your face and before applying moisturizer or cosmetics.
Crush an aspirin into fine powder using the back of a spoon or other solid object.
Add a few drops of cold water at a time to the aspirin powder until the mixture forms a very thick paste.
Use your smallest finger or a cotton swab to dab the mixture directly onto your pimple to reduce redness and inflammation.
Mash a banana in a small bowl with a fork or masher.
Mix 1 tbsp. honey into the banana mixture, until it's well mixed.
Add three drops of lemon juice to banana mixture and mix until thoroughly combined.
Use fingertips to apply banana mixture to your entire face, avoiding the area around the eyes.
Spread the banana mask over the area with acne, and leave it on 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cool water. Use mask once a week to help prevent acne breakouts.
