How to Remove Marks Left From Acne
Acne marks can occur after breakouts, especially if you have severe acne. Marks can also occur if you irritate or pick at acne. They appear pink, red or purple on light skin and dark brown on darker skin. Acne marks usually fade on their own over time, a process that can take months, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. However, it is possible to speed up the process and remove acne marks through the use of home remedies and professional skin treatments.
Apply a bleaching cream to your acne marks. Do this once a day. Look for creams that have 2 percent or less of the active ingredient hydroquinone. Less than 2 percent may not be effective, and more than that can cause skin discoloration.
Apply lemon juice to your acne marks with a cotton swab. Rinse the lemon juice away after 10 minutes. Lemon juice is a natural skin lightener. Apply the lemon juice twice a day.
Exfoliate your skin. You can use a store bought exfoliating scrub, or make some yourself by mixing 1 tsp. of baking soda with 2 tsp. of water. Rub the mixture onto your acne marks for one minute and then rinse it away. Exfoliate twice a week.
Apply olive oil to your acne marks. Do this once a day. This will moisturize and nourish your skin, giving it more elasticity and reducing the appearance of acne marks.
Discuss medical options with your dermatologist, such as prescription creams, laser treatment, chemical peels and microdermabrasion. These options are typically for you if you have not had luck removing the marks on your own, or if the marks are severe.
