How to Cover Post Acne Marks
So, you got rid of those pesky pimples on your face, but now you're left with red or brown marks everywhere. Don't worry. These aren't scars. Rather, they're just post-acne marks caused by hyperpigmentation--darkening of the skin. For the most part, marks like these go away on their own within a few months. But until then, you'll need to use a few tricks from your makeup box to cover them up.
Moisturize your skin. Even if you have oily skin, it's important to use an oil-free moisturizer to prime your skin. This will create an even surface and make your pores look smaller. It will also prevent flakiness and dry patches that cause makeup to clump from harsh acne medications.
Protect yourself from the sun by wearing an oil-free sunscreen with at least SPF 15. If you can find a moisturizer with sunscreen in it, even better. The fewer layers of creams on your face, the more it will breathe and the better the acne-healing process will go.
Use a concealer--either in a makeup stick, pressed cream or liquid--to cover up your post acne marks. Use a concealer brush and dab a bit of the concealer directly on your blemishes. Pat the concealer on so it fully covers the mark. Blend the edges of the concealer into the rest of your skin, using the concealer brush.
Use clean fingertips, a cosmetic sponge or a foundation brush to apply liquid foundation that matches your skin tone. Make sure the foundation is oil-free and non-comedogenic--to prevent future breakouts. Apply evenly over your skin, being careful to blend thoroughly into your hairline and jawline.
Apply either a loose or pressed powder over the foundation with a brush. This will help to set your foundation so it won't budge during the day.
