Acute acne can present itself in a few different ways. It can be mild to moderate forms of acne such as blackheads, whiteheads, papules and pustules that cover large areas of skin. It can also present as severe forms such as cysts and nodules that are the most likely to leave scarring behind. Acute acne can even present itself as a combination of the two. It is generally recommended to seek medical treatment for acute acne, but there are some home remedies to make your acne subside.

Diet

It has been shown that a proper diet high in antioxidant foods such as fruits and vegetables are very effective for acne. Natural foods expert Dr. Andrew Weil also recommends increasing foods high in omega-3 fatty acids such as halibut, wild salmon and other seafood. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports a deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids can cause acne, and it is a nutrient the body does not produce on its own. It is also very important to drink a sufficient amount of water each day to keep the skin cells hydrated and toxins flushed away from the skin.

Vitamins

Even with a healthy diet, vitamin supplements can aid in making sure your body is receiving the nutrients needed to boost the immune system. Supplements are not a substitute for a healthy diet, however. Antioxidants help to boost the immune system, provide essential nutrients to help the skin tissues repair and renew themselves and help to fight free radicals. Antioxidants include vitamins A, C, E and zinc, and the Mayo Clinic even recommends taking zinc as a home remedy. The whole vitamin B group is also essential to help to keep acne at bay and a deficiency in B-2, B-3 and B-6 can cause acne.

Skin Care

Do not over-wash the acute acne, as it can irritate the skin, causing adverse effects. Wash the skin no more than twice per day. Use mild soap such as glycerin soap, and avoid any irritants such as scrubbers, washcloths or rubbing the skin dry. Dry the skin by patting with a fresh, clean towel. If you are active, wash immediately after sweating. Sweat can pool with a mixture of toxins and oil on the skin, resulting in acne.

Treatment

Apply tea tree oil to clean skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, tea tree oil is a natural antibiotic that has been proved to be just as effective as its chemical counterpart benzoyl peroxide. An antibiotic helps to kill the bacteria within the pores, effectively reducing the different acne forms.
