Home Remedy for Acne Beneath the Skin

Overview

Most people that are affected by acne will try to use an over-the-counter, acne-fighting product to dry up and eliminate their acne breakouts. Unfortunately, most chemical acne products contain ingredients that can irritate and inflame the skin, often causing redness, peeling, itching and burning. Luckily, there are natural remedies to treat acne breakouts that will eliminate blemishes without causing undue irritation or inflammation that could exacerbate the skin condition.

Step 1

Apply a pore-flushing facial steam. Fill a large bowl with very hot, almost boiling water. Place the bowl onto a surface that is flat so that the bowl will not spill. Lay a towel over your head, and lean over the bowl, no nearer than 12 inches. This will prevent the skin from scalding from the steam. Allow the steam to envelop the skin for at least five minutes, but no longer than 10 minutes. The steam will open the pores, enabling the impurities to drain out. Lift your head from the bowl, and splash your face with cool water. Pat your face dry with the towel. Repeat once per day to flush out impurities form the skin.

Step 2

Apply a gentle scrub that will remove dead skin. In a small bowl, combine 1 tbsp. of honey with 1 tsp. of pure baking soda. Spread the honey mixture onto moistened skin, and use your fingers to gently massage it in for two to three minutes. Rinse off the scrub with warm water. Repeat two times per week to remove dead skin cells, which could clog the pores and cause acne breakouts.

Step 3

Apply a tea tree oil mud mask. Purchase French green clay from a health food store, or through an online merchant. In a small bowl, mix together 1 tbsp. of clay with one drop of pure tea tree oil. The Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital suggests that tea tree oil is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide in clearing up acne breakouts, but does not irritate the skin like benzoyl peroxide can. Spread the tea tree oil mud mask onto your face, and leave it on until it dries completely. Wash the mask off with warm water, and pat the skin dry with a towel. Use a tea tree oil mud mask up to two times per week to treat acne breakouts naturally.
