Home Remedies to Clear Acne Forever

Unfortunately, acne is like the common cold: there is no cure, and no matter what you do, you are susceptible to getting it again and again. There are preventative measures you can take, however, to keep outbreaks at bay. As with a cold, eating a properly balanced diet, boosting the immune system and applying acne treatments to the skin will help to clear and control acne.

Maintain a Daily Skin Regimen

Wash the skin no more than twice daily with glycerin soap. Over-washing can irritate skin further, having adverse effects. Pat the skin dry with a towel, and then apply tea tree oil to the skin. Tea tree oil is an acne treatment with antibacterial properties, and according to the Mayo Clinic is proven to treat acne. Apply after each washing.

Eat Fruits & Vegetables

The Vitamin and Nutrition Center reports that only 15 percent of Americans eat the appropriate amount of vegetables per day. This deprives the body of a lot of antioxidants and vitamins essential to maintaining a strong immune system. Vitamins A, B-1, C and E are antioxidants that help to boost the immune system, enable skin to effectively repair and renew tissue and fight free radicals that can cause acne. Vitamins A, B-2, B-3 and B-6 are known to cause acne as a symptom of their deficiency.

Eat Fish

Fish containing omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon or halibut is another food often missing from people's diets. Omega-3 fatty acids are not produced naturally by the body and must be consumed to obtain their benefits. Omega-3 fatty acids contain strong anti-inflammatory properties to reduce swollen acne breakouts. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, a body deprived of omega-3 fatty acids causes dry skin.

Drink Water

Drinking the appropriate amounts of water per day to keep your body fully hydrated is one of the best home remedies for clearing acne. Fully hydrated skin is better able to fight and prevent infections, and it keeps the skin from becoming dry and flaky. Water also helps to flush all the toxins away from the skin and out of the body, preventing the toxins from building up and causing acne. Avoid caffeine and other stimulants that will dehydrate you.

Take Zinc

Add a zinc supplement to your day. According to the Mayo Clinic, this is a great home remedy to clear acne. It, too, is an antioxidant with powerful capabilities of boosting the immune system and strong anti-inflammatory properties. Zinc is another substance that causes acne when there's a deficiency of it in the body.
