Toothpaste is a common home remedy for acne, mostly because it has a tendency to dry out oily skin, one of the most common causes of acne in teens and adults. However, the Food and Drug Administration has not approved these natural remedies, so talk with your doctor or dermatologist before starting any new treatment, especially if you take any medications or have allergies.

According to "Natural Beauty Basics: Create Your Own Cosmetics and Body Care Products," you can apply a mixture of toothpaste and oregano essential oil to the skin as a topical treatment for acne. Gently massage a very small portion of the mixture onto the affected area, and leave it on for about 1 hour or until almost completely dry. You can store unused portions of the mixture in a cool, dark place for up to two weeks.
