Toothpaste is a common home remedy for acne, mostly because it has a tendency to dry out oily skin, one of the most common causes of acne in teens and adults. However, the Food and Drug Administration has not approved these natural remedies, so talk with your doctor or dermatologist before starting any new treatment, especially if you take any medications or have allergies.

Toothpaste and Oregano Essential Oil

Combine 10 parts toothpaste with 1 part oregano essential oil. You can apply this treatment once per day, but you should discontinue it if it causes extreme redness or other irritation. You can store unused portions of the mixture in a cool, dark place for up to two weeks.

Toothpaste and Bergamot Essential Oil

According to "Alternative Cures: More than 1,000 of the Most Effective Natural Home Remedies," you can use a mixture of regular toothpaste and bergamot essential oil to help get rid of acne and pimples causes by oily skin. Combine 12 parts toothpaste with 1 part bergamot essential oil. With a clean fingertip, dab the mixture onto each pimple, avoiding clear skin, and leave it on for 30 to 45 minutes or until nearly dry. Rinse the skin with cool water, and wash with a gentle cleanser. You can use this treatment daily, but discontinue it if you experience skin irritation. You can keep unused portions in a cool, dark place for two weeks.

Toothpaste, Tea Tree Oil and Olive Oil

Massage the mixture onto the affected area, and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing with cool water and patting the skin dry. There is no reason to wash the skin with soap unless the mixture causes irritation. You can store unused portions of this mixture in a cool, dry place for up to 30 days.
