Overview

According to "Foundations of Nursing," potash is a mixture of salt and tree ashes that is used as an alternative therapy for treating acne. Though potash is generally regarded as a safe treatment for acne, a dermatologist should be consulted prior to treating acne with potash to ensure that it is a safe treatment for you.

Step 1

Cleanse your face with facial cleanser. Rinse off the facial cleanser with lukewarm water and a washcloth. Gently scrub your face with a washcloth to exfoliate the skin. According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," exfoliation removes dead cells from the surface of the skin, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the potash treatment.

Step 2

Apply a quarter-sized amount of cold cream to your face, being careful to avoid the area around your eyes. According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," the skin should be allowed to absorb the cold cream for approximately one minute. This is ensures that the potash does not wick away too much moisture from the skin.

Step 3

Dab the liquid potash to the acne-prone areas of your face, paying special attention to the areas of the face with current pimples. Allow the potash to sit on your face for two to three minutes and then wash it off with facial cleanser. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," it is important to wash off the potash within three minutes to avoid drying the skin.
