Calming your acne requires a basic knowledge of its cause. Acne is caused by a process of events. Your body naturally produces sebum through the skin pores. Acne develops when these skin pores become clogged with sebum, dead skin cells, oils and sweat. This combines with bacteria leading to irritation and inflammation. Calming your acne involves helping to prevent or minimize this cycle. Key steps include good facial cleansing and utilizing acne medication. Mild to moderate acne is often treated with over the counter medications. Severe acne is often treated by prescription medications following consultation with a doctor.

Step 1

Splash warm water on your face. Lather mild facial cleanser. Apply to face with your bear hands. Gently massage your face with circular motions moving up and away. Rinse with cool water to decrease inflammation.

Step 2

Pat your face dry with a soft clean towel. Do not scrub harshly as it will further irritate your skin.

Step 3

Read medication label or labels. Gently apply medication to your face as directed by medication label. Medicate your whole face, not just your acne spots. Follow doctor's instructions if medication is prescribed by your doctor. Allow time for medication to absorb or dry if topical.
