Tips on How to Make a Homemade Acne Cure
Acne is a dermatological condition typically characterized by visible lumps, bumps and redness on the surface of the skin. However, the condition actually begins within the hair follicles, when excess sebum and dead skin cells build up to form soft plugs. The clogged pores may then expand and become infected, resulting in whiteheads, blackheads, pimples and cysts. According to the Mayo Clinic, treating acne requires a "simple cleansing of the skin" to prevent the build-up of excess sebum and dead skin cells.
Homemade Exfoliating Cleanser
Combine the oatmeal and yogurt in a bowl.
Use your fingertips to gently massage the mixture over your entire face. Wait for five minutes. Yogurt is a source of lactic acid, which helps exfoliate dead skin cells.
Rinse off the oatmeal and yogurt cleanser with warm water.
Homemade Acne Spot Treatment
Pour the baking soda into a cup of water and mix thoroughly. Set aside.
Place the uncoated aspirin tablets in a shallow dish. According to Doctor Oz, aspirin contains salicylic acid, a mild chemical exfoliant that helps slough off dead skin.
Add lemon juice to the aspirin until the tablets begin to dissolve. Use a spoon to crush the ingredients into a thin paste. Lemon juice contains citric acid, another type of chemical exfoliant.
Use a cotton swab to dab the mixture onto blemished skin. Let dry for 10 minutes, then use the baking soda and water solution to remove. The baking soda works to neutralize the acid, explains Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of television's "Dr. Oz Show."
