Accutane, also known as isotretinoin, is a prescription medicine that lowers the amount of oil secreted by the oil glands in the skin. It is given to patients with severe acne, bacterial infections near the nose, problems with the sweat glands, red skin disorder or rosacea, and patchy skin disorders. There can be crusting of the skin, itchiness, skin peeling on the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. Sun protection is necessary with the help of sunblock and protective clothing.

Physical conditions like headaches, vomiting, nausea, severe stomach pain, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, loss of appetite, stiffness of bones, joint pains, body aches, easy bleeding and bruising can be noticed after or during the use of Accutane. It is important to advise the doctor immediately when these problems are observed.

Medical Conditions

Isotretinoin should not be used by those with reduced kidney or liver function. According to, pancreatitis, liver problems, and inflammatory bowel disease can result with the use of this medicine, so the following symptoms should be reported to the doctor: fever, flu symptoms, jaundice, seizure, anemia, stroke, palpitation, respiratory infections, stomach pain, diarrhea and rectal bleeding.

Due to the potential medical problems with Accutane, recommends that this medication remains a last resort of treatment after considering all other treatments available. It is also not advisable to take any medicines without a prescription or advice from a physician.
