How to Stop White Heads
Both whiteheads and blackheads are called comedones and are a form of acne. They appear when the pore of the skin becomes blocked by oil, debris or excess skin cells. When the plug is flush with the skin surface, it is a whitehead. In order to treat and prevent breakouts, you should wash your skin up to twice a day, gently exfoliate and apply a cream or lotion that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Apply only make-up or moisturizers that are non-comedogenic to prevent clogging pores and creating new breakouts.
At the Sink
Turn on the hot water to build a little steam. Let the steam cover your face for just a moment to help open up pores. Make the water warm and wash your skin with a mild soap.
Exfoliate gently by rotating the washcloth around your face to help remove excess dead skin cells. Avoid rubbing harshly, which can irritate your skin and spread the breakout or cause new ones to appear.
Rinse your skin with cool water and dry thoroughly. Apply the medicated cream as per the package instructions. Allow it to dry before applying any makeup or moisturizer.
In the Shower or Bath
Sprinkle five to six drops of tea tree oil onto the shower pan or bath tub. Turn on the hot water to build up some steam. Let the steam cover your face for a minute, be careful not to burn yourself. Make the water comfortable for bathing.
Wash your skin using a mild soap. Use a circular motion with the washcloth and gently exfoliate the dead skin cells off your face. Avoid being too aggressive.
Dry your skin completely when you are finished. Follow the product's directions and apply the medicated cream to your skin. Allow it to dry before applying any makeup or moisturizer.
