How to Safely Remove Blackheads
Overview
According to the book "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," blackheads are caused by excess oil on the skin that clogs pores. In most cases you can remove blackheads safely in the comfort of your home. However, in some severe cases, home remedies do not provide favorable results. If after adhering to the following regimen for six weeks and you do not notice a significant reduction in the amount of blackheads on your skin, a visit to a dermatologist is strongly suggested.
Step 1
Soak a towel in warm water and wring it out. Gently place the towel over your face for about ten minutes. According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," the steam from the warm towel will allow the pores of the skin to dilate, making it easier to remove the blackheads from within the pores.
Step 2
Mix one part turmeric powder with one part lemon juice to form a paste. Apply this paste to the blackheads of your skin. Allow the paste to remain on the skin for approximately ten minutes. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," this mixture will adhere to the blackheads, allowing them to be easily washed away.
Step 3
Cleanse your skin with facial cleanser, washing off the paste that was previously applied. After thoroughly, yet gently, cleansing your skin, splash cold water on your face. According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," cold water will constrict the pores of the skin, preventing further blackheads from forming.
